Opponent’s body language
Being able to scan through your opponent’s body language is a pseudo art which needs to be developed in order to bluff properly. In fact, most people use bluffing and reading your opponent’s minds interchangeably. Of course, this skill is either innate or grows with experience, but if you are not sure about what your opponent is thinking, or what kind of moves he might make under a given condition, then you are better off not bluffing at all. Such players are unpredictable and a confused player always calls instead of folding, just for the sake of it. Also, if you observe that your opponent has been running after the pot like anything, right from the inception of the game, then it is pointless to bluff against him, as he would not like to fold under any circumstances. Similarly, being able to assess what your opponents feel about your game play is also important in order to make successful bluffs. If you have played only on strong hands till a certain point in time, then chances are that players would call you without thinking much. Such a situation is usually the best to bluff. Being able to asses your opponents’ frame of mind and knowing where you stand among the rest of the opponents is a necessary precondition to bluff successfully.
